Winter Dog Waste Removal: Why You Shouldn't Wait for the Spring Thaw
Every winter, a lot of dog owners in South Jersey make the same quiet decision: I’ll deal with the yard in spring. It’s understandable. It’s cold, the snow covers everything, and out of sight is out of mind. But that pause has a way of turning into one of the least pleasant weekends of the year.
What actually happens under the snow
Dogs don’t stop going in winter, and waste doesn’t break down meaningfully in the cold. So everything from December through March just… accumulates. As the CDC notes, the parasite eggs that can live in dog waste are remarkably durable and can survive in the environment for months under the right conditions — cold included. So a winter’s worth of buildup isn’t just unpleasant in spring; it’s a season of material sitting in the soil your family uses once the weather turns.
